TVNZ takes Aussie charity format

New Zealand’s TVNZ has acquired a local version of a socially conscious Australian format that raises money for charity.

Australia-based prodco Charity TV Global will start shooting TVNZ’s Adventure All Stars (6×60′) next month, with Kiwi presenter/artist Erin Simpson hosting.

The show will see 50 New Zealanders take part in what are described as adventurous and fun activities for five days across the country.

The only prerequisite is that each participant has raised funds for Charity TV Global’s local charity partners Make-a-Wish NZ, Mothers Helpers, St John Christchurch, 360 Community Trust, Blue Light NZ and Asthma NZ.

The prodco funds the production from brands and businesses that support the format’s philanthropic purpose, with net proceeds going to the charities. TVNZ2 will air the show.

Professional footballer turned TV producer Troy Gray founded Charity TV Global 13 years ago with the aim of producing appealing, ground-breaking and socially conscious broadcast content. To date, the firm has raised more than A$5.8m (US$4m) for charity.

The format was first produced in Australia, where it was aired by the Nine Network and the Seven Network’s 7Two. Production of a second Oz season is underway. Local versions have also been produced in the US and Uganda and there are plans to take the format to Asia later this year.
