Danish broadcaster TV2 and Germany’s ZDF boarded the adaptation of bestselling author Anna Grues’ books at the end of last year.

Filming on the project has begun in the city of Helsingør in eastern Denmark, with Peter Mygind starring as detective Dan Sommerdahl. It is set to debut in spring 2020.

It marks the first time older adult-skewing TV2 Charlie has commissioned its own crime series.

The books follow a highly respected police investigator who works on many of the city’s major criminal cases but is also involved in a love triangle at work with his wife and another colleague.

The TV series is being written by Danish screenwriter Lolita Bellstar and produced Janni Helleskov, who together run production company Sequoia Global Alliance.

German prodco NDF and distributor Dynamic Television are also on board the series, which is being made with support from the Helsingør Municipality and Copenhagen Film Fund.

“It is first and foremost an exciting crime story about murders committed over an otherwise idyllic Danish summer. It is also the story of three lifelike main characters whose lives are intertwined,” said TV2 director of fiction Katrine Vogelsang.
