Sony Pictures Television is among the companies that would normally be taking part in a number of physical screenings, networking sessions and buyer meetings as part of the flurry of events that have sprung up in the UK each February around the annual BBC Studios Showcase.

But this year, with the pandemic pushing these activities online, the company is today hosting a virtual formats showcase, following on from similar efforts during Mipcom last year. Sony Pictures Television’s senior VP of international creative development Sarah Edwards spoke to Ed Waller about the event, the titles the company has on offer and how the formats business has responded to the pandemic.

Nick Curwin became known as one of the UK’s hottest production talents when he sold his indie Firefly to Endemol Shine, with the business renamed Dragonfly, and then moving on to start The Garden, later sold to ITV.

He is now running a new venture called Matisse, acting as an advisor, consultancy and investor to production companies in all genres. The firm recently purchased a minority stake in UK indie Minnow and has been helping clients navigate Covid-19 and trying to forecast what might come next. He spoke with Clive Whittingham.
