Tom Manwaring is partner at UK media and acquisitions specialist Helion Partners. He has advised on more than 30 transactions including the sale of Mammoth Screen to ITV, Love Productions to Sky and Raw TV to Discovery.

Most recently he completed the sale of blue-chip natural history producer Silverback Films to All3Media, literary agency The Agency to Avalon and Eleven, maker of Netflix’s Sex Edu-cation, to Sony Pictures Television.

Jonathan Webdale caught up with him to hear more about these deals, how the events of 2020 changed media and entertainment and how investor confidence in the TV business is shaping up for 2021.

Bailey Mackey is CEO of New Zealand-based factual and unscripted specialist Pango Pro-ductions, which has a co-development deal with Fremantle and is behind projects including Sidewalk Karaoke, The GC and All Or Nothing: New Zealand All Blacks for Amazon.

The producer, writer, director and former professional rugby player is one of the country’s foremost TV producers and spoke to Nico Franks this week over Zoom, after their face-to-face interview had to be cancelled when Auckland was put into a three-day lockdown.

Bailey discussed Covid complacency in New Zealand, lobbying major US streamers to com-mission originals in the country – rather than just using it as a filming location – and how he sees the disruption facing distributors playing out.
