TruTV unveils reality-laden slate

US cable network TruTV has picked up an Endemol USA show for syndication and unveiled eight new unscripted series, including one from Jennifer Lopez.

Lopez’s prodco Nuyorican Productions is making South Beach Tow for TruTV. The show follows a family-run business in South Beach, Miami, and is being made with Bodega Pictures.

Scott Free Entertainment, owned by Tony and Ridley Scott, is also teaming up with RD Independent Productions to make Motoclash, a series about the eponymous motorcycle race.

NFL Films, meanwhile, is making Semi-Pro, a docusoap about NFL players, while Irwin Entertainment has been greenlit to produce Hollywood Taxi, a reality series following Tinseltown cabbies. Bear Swamp Recovery is another reality show, this time about New Jersey repo men, and is from Bischoff-Hervey Entertainment.

Other new commissions include record-breaking challenge show Guinness World Records, from Cake Boss prodco High Noon Entertainment; prank series Impractical Jokers, from North South Productions; and ice-sculpting docusoap Chill, from Entertainment One Television and Left/Right.

TruTV has also acquired off-net rights to Endemol USA’s ABC series Wipeout for fall 2011, and has renewed Hardcore Pawn, Black Gold, Full Throttle Saloon and Lizard Lick Towing.

Marc Juris, executive VP and general manager of TruTV, described the slate as “high-stakes, high-impact television,” adding: “We have tremendous momentum as a network, driven by our strength in original programming and our ongoing growth in brand awareness.”
