True North alum Andrew Sheldon named Screen Yorkshire chair

Former True North co-founder Andrew Sheldon has been appointed to the role of chair at UK funding body Screen Yorkshire, with Little Dot Studios executive Wayne Davison joining the Board.

Sheldon brings more than three decades of experience in the Yorkshire TV sector, spanning programme-making and independent production.

In 2002, Sheldon founded True North alongside Jess Fowle and Glyn Middleton. Based in Leeds, the factual prodco is behind shows such as Warship: Life on the Frontline (5) and Be Your Own Boss (ITV). Sheldon exited True North in May of 2022.

He succeeds John Surtees, who steps down after 14 years as chair.

Davison brings his experience as chief revenue officer at Little Dot Studios, where he has spent the last decade leading digital-first content strategy and distribution.

Screen Yorkshire says that the appointments reinforce its strategic leadership as the body continues to drive inward investment, support production, talent and workforce development.

Caroline Cooper Charles, chief executive, Screen Yorkshire, said: “These appointments come at a pivotal time for the screen sector.

“Andrew’s experience across production and regional industry development, combined with Wayne’s expertise in digital strategy and platform-led growth, will be instrumental as we continue to adapt to rapid shifts in how screen media is financed, produced and distributed.

“All our thanks go to John Surtees for his outstanding contribution during his time as chair, leading us to the strong position we find ourselves in now.”
