True crime show about shopping mall Santa turned serial killer leads Beyond slate

Best of Britain by the Sea is fronted by Ainsley Harriot and Grace Dent

A true crime series about the investigation into a serial killer who worked as a shopping mall Santa and a food travelogue series fronted by chef Ainsley Harriott are among the 180 hours of unscripted content on Beyond Rights’ MipTV slate.

Santa Claus the Serial Killer (3×60’), produced by Forest, examines the case of Bruce McArthur, who was convicted of killing eight young men in Toronto, while Best of Britain by the Sea (5×60’), from Blink Films, sees Harriott and journalist Grace Dent eat their way around British seaside resorts.

In the crime and investigation space, Beyond Rights is representing Loot (8×60’), from EQ Media Rights, which looks at how the trade in stolen antiquities and art has become a major source of income for criminal syndicates, gangs and terrorists across the globe.

Leading its reality slate is End of the Rope (6×60’), produced by Big Coat Media, in which cameras follow rope-access technicians as they fix major landmarks. End of the Rope is joined by Back with the Ex, from Seven Studios, which reunites singles with the one that got away to see if they were meant to be together after all.

Meanwhile, Custody Cops (3×60’), produced by Double Act, captures life working in one of Britain’s biggest and newest custody suites, while Yorkshire Midwives on Call (5×60’), from Candour Productions, follows home-birth midwives as they help families welcome their new arrivals.

History titles include Underground Railroad: The Secret History (4×60’), produced by Attraction Media, and Trains at War (4×60’), from Pernel Media, which explores the role of trains in conflict, shedding light on four famous campaigns involving trains in the Second World War.

Produced by One Tribe TV, feature doc 54 Hours Beneath (1×60’) looks deep into what happens when caving goes wrong, while Europe’s Greatest Train Journeys (6×60’) is a new travel series featuring extraordinary train routes such as those through Italy’s cliff-top villages of the Cinqueterre.

Also in the travel space is ECG Productions’ Taste the Diversity (10×30’), which explores different cultures, history and personal stories from around the world through national dishes and recipes.

Finally, Beyond Rights’ slate features new seasons of returning series including season eight of Abandoned Engineering (12×60’) from Like a Shot Entertainment, season six of Heavy Rescue: 401 (18×60’) from Great Pacific Media, season 10 (18×60’) of Love It Or List It from Big Coat Media and a third season of Filthy House SOS (8×60’) from Gobstopper TV.

David Smyth, CEO of Beyond Rights, said: “Not only do we have some fantastic new titles in genres for which we are very well known, but our ability to return with new seasons of long-running programmes each year is always well received, as many of these go on to become anchor brands on channels around the world.”
