The World According to Football is produced by Gotham Chopra’s Religion of Sports in association with Day Zero Productions and Mainstay Entertainment.

Set to premiere on US network Showtime in the US on December 1, each episode focuses on a different country – Brazil, US, UK, France and Qatar – and explores issues including women’s rights, labour rights, income inequality, mental health, racism, LGBTQ+ rights and nationalism. New episodes will also stream on Paramount+ with Showtime in the US.

The announcement comes after Netflix confirmed last week that it will premiere Where Was I, Noah’s fourth stand-up special for the streamer, on December 19.

It also comes shortly after Paramount Global announced it would be closing Showtime Sports at the end of the year.

“This may be the most important project we’ve ever produced,” said Chopra.

“Not just because we got to collaborate with Trevor Noah and a team of brilliant creatives, but also because this show is so on brand for us. Sports – and in this case specifically football/soccer – is a language through which we get to explore some of the most critical issues of our time.
