Trevor Noah to play games with Quibi

Trevor Noah on The Daily Show

The Daily Show host Trevor Noah is fronting a gaming-themed format for Jeffrey Katzenberg’s new shortform platform Quibi.

Player vs Player with Trevor Noah will see the self-professed gamer pit his skills against the best of the eSports community.

Comedy Central Studios, Noah’s Day Zero Productions and Mainstay Entertainment are working on the shortform series. Noah and Haroon Saleem are executive producing alongside Norman Aladjem, Derek Van Pelt, Sanaz Yamin and Bob Bain.

Quibi has underperformed since its April launch, with former Walt Disney Co chair Katzenberg blaming the pandemic for the disappointing results in a New York Times interview in May.

Katzenberg seemed more optimistic about the service’s future when he spoke in June, but mobile analytics firm Sensor Tower reported earlier this month that Quibi had managed to convert barely 10% (72,000) of the 910,000 people who took out a three-month free trial in its first week back in April.
