First Story Pictures will be based in New York with Tremayne leading the company and Cineflix Productions alumna Caroline Grist joining as development executive.

It will develop and produce premium factual and scripted content based on true stories, along with TV movies for global audiences.

Tremayne already has a number of projects set up with networks including Lifetime, National Geographic International, Discovery Science and Syfy. He is also working with writer and showrunner Ric Burns on the development of a limited scripted series called Donner Party for the History Channel.

The partnership gives Cineflix Media the first option to coproduce original content developed by Tremayne under his newly formed production company.

The Cineflix Productions team, under president and commercial director JC Mills will provide services and development support for Tremayne’s projects. London-based sales arm Cineflix Rights has the exclusive first-look right to distribute First Story Productions content internationally.

The announcement comes a year after Tremayne transitioned from his role as president of Cineflix Productions to the new position of chair of the Cineflix Content Group, a working alliance of its producers and creatives, which he will continue to hold while building First Story Productions.

During his tenure at Cineflix Productions, Tremayne was responsible for overseeing many long-running global franchises including American Pickers and Mayday: Air Disaster; documentaries like Sinking Cities and The Quest for Gold; true crime investigations The Clown & the Candyman, The Eleven and Children of the Snow; fact-based drama series Gangland Undercover; as well as Lifetime TV Movies I Was Lorena Bobbitt and Believe Me: The Abduction of Lisa McVey.

Before joining Cineflix, Tremayne was exec producer in charge of RDF’s east coast production base that produced Wife Swap for ABC. Prior to that, he was at UK commercial broadcaster ITV, where, among many roles, he was executive producer of World in Action and co-created the long-running First 48 for A&E.

For Cineflix Productions, Caroline Grist was instrumental in the development of The Clown & the Candyman, Children of the Snow and The Eleven, as well as the global franchise Homicide: Hours to Kill, now in its third season.
