Tony Jordan drama set for Mid East

Blood Oath will debut on Shahid in Q1

Middle Eastern on-demand service Shahid, part of the MBC Group, is lining up a local version of a thriller from British scribe Tony Jordan.

Crime drama Blood Oath (10×60’), originally produced in Serbia by Adrenalin in 2018 as Besa, will be adapted for Arabic-speaking audiences by the Red Planet Pictures founder.

Dubai-based MBC Studios and Lebanon’s Eagle Films are production partners on the series, which follows a businessman who falls foul of the mafia and, fearing for his family, is forced to work for them.

Shahid will debut Blood Oath in the first quarter of this year and MBC Studios is representing it internationally.

The series is among a number in the works at the company following the appointment of former Cineflix Studios and NBCUniversal international president Peter Smith.

Smith commissioned Jordan to make Besa in his last role as director of Greece-based Antenna Group before joining MBC shortly after.

“Besa is the first Serbian series to be sold and adapted as a format,” said Adrenalin MD Tea Korolija, adding that the firm is working on a second season of the original.

The drama was shot in Lebanon, Greece and Cyprus and is among a growing slate of locally produced shows backed by MBC Studios, including love story drama Beirut Bride – based on the Turkish format Bride of Istanbul – and Boxing Girls, about a group of young women attempting to overcome challenges.
