Tokyo prodco The Seven set to benefit as parent TBS backs VFX studio Megalis

Megalis has already worked with The Seven on projects

Japanese production company The Seven, part of Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS) Holdings, has strengthened its visual effects (VFX) capabilities following TBS’s investment in VFX studio Megalis.

Tokyo-headquartered TBS recently announced a “significant capital investment” in Megalis, which has provided VFX for TV projects such as the Netflix animated series ONI: Thunder God’s Tale.

Founded in 2017 by co-CEOs Christophe Rodo and Jeffrey Dillinger, Megalis is also based in Tokyo and has an office in France.

The investment is part of TBS Group’s ambitious Vision 2030 global strategy to grow its content’s international footprint.

Megalis has collaborated with The Seven on projects such as Netflix’s live-action series Yu Yu Hakusho and feature film Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead.

Executives at The Seven have said TBS’s investment in the Megalis will bolster their company’s production capabilities.

Last December, the prodco opened its ¥20bn (US$136m) M6 Studio facility to help alleviate a “chronic shortage” of studio space in Japan and produce premium content for international streamers.
