TMG takes Strange & Norrell

German producer and distributor Tele München Group (TMG) has acquired BBC drama Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell following a deal with Endemol Worldwide Distribution.

The seven-part fantasy drama will premiere on BBC1 this year and under the agreement will air to German-speaking audiences within 24 hours of that broadcast.

Based on the bestselling novel by Susanna Clarke, the show is set during the Napleonic Wars and stars Eddie Marsan and Olivier Award-winning actor Bertie Carvel.

The series was adapted by Peter Harness (Wallander, Is Anybody There?), directed by Toby Haynes (Sherlock, Doctor Who) and produced by Nick Hirschkorn (Five Children and It, Skellig).

It was recently announced that Endemol Worldwide Distribution and Shine International were joining forces as one business under the leadership of CEO Cathy Payne.

The two operations are being brought together as part of the new joint venture between Endemol, Shine and Core Media, which is initially operating under the name Endemol Shine Group.
