The 4×60’ miniseries will air on BBCWW channel BBC Entertainment in two double bills in April, following the conclusion of the drama on UK broadcaster ITV1.

Titanic is written by Downton Abbey scribe Fellowes and features a cast including Linus Roache (Batman Begins), Geraldine Somerville (Harry Potter) and Celia Imrie (Bridget Jones’s Diary). Downton debuted on BBC Entertainment last Sunday.

Filmed in Hungary, Titanic is produced by ITV Studios, Deep Indigo Productions and Lookout Point in the UK; Shaw Media and Sienna Films in Canada; and Hungary-based Mid Atlantic Films. Nigel Stafford-Clark (Bleak House) and Chris Thompson (Love Actually) produce.

The series retells the story of the doomed ship from the point of view of several characters, ranging from passengers in steerage to those in upper class.

Jon Farrar, VP programming for EMEA, BBCWW channels, said: “As the first channel to bring the hotly anticipated Downton Abbey to South Africa, it’s a thrill to be the only channel to show Julian Fellowes’ latest project too.”

Other networks onboard Titanic include ZDF in Germany and France’s TF1.
