The Smurfs return to MENA via children’s and family net Spacetoon

Pan Arab kids’ channel Spacetoon has acquired classic Belgian children’s show The Smurfs.

Under the deal with The Smurfs’ licence holder IMPS, Spacetoon will broadcast an Arabic-dubbed version of the series in 3D CGI animation style across the MENA region.

The first 52×11’ season is produced by Peyo Productions and Dupuis Audiovisuel in coproduction with German kids’ channel KiKA, VRT in Belgium’s Dutch-language children’s channel Ketnet and VRT’s French-language counterpart in Belgium RTBF.

Spacetoon also has plans to expand The Smurfs brand through various entertainment activities and toys in the MENA region.

Kamel Weiss, strategic business development director at Spacetoon, said: “The Smurfs is a multigenerational title that has been resonating with audience for 40 years now and we are proud to have it back in MENA as a TV show and also as branded events.”
