The Rookie creator Alexi Hawley agrees overall deal with Lionsgate Television

Alexi Hawley, creator of cop procedural The Rookie (ABC) and spy drama The Recruit (Netflix), has signed a new overall deal with Lionsgate Television.

The writer, showrunner and executive producer was previously under an overall deal with Entertainment One, which was acquired by Lionsgate in December.

Under the new pact, Hawley will develop and produce shows for Lionsgate Television, which is part of Lionsgate Studios.

In addition to Lionsgate TV-produced series The Recruit and The Rookie, the latter of which was renewed for its seventh season earlier this year, Hawley is also collaborating with Lionsgate on The Envoy, a television adaptation of journalist Adam Ciralsky’s Vanity Fair article about the release of American hostages.

“Alexi is one of the most talented creators working in television,” said Kevin Beggs, Lionsgate Television’s chair and chief creative officer.

“He has been instrumental to the success of The Rookie franchise and will continue to be a valuable partner for us.”
