The Rock rolls back to HBO

US premium cablenet HBO has renewed Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson sports comedy Ballers for a second season.

Ballers: HBO’s most-watched debut since 2009

Created by Stephen Levinson (Entourage), the show premiered last month to 8.9 million viewers, becoming HBO’s most-watched debut episode of a half-hour series since 2009.

The comedy stars wrestler-turned-actor Johnson as an American football superstar as he gets his life on track in retirement while mentoring other players through the daily grind of the business.

Ballers is produced by US prodcos Closest to the Hole Productions, Leverage Entertainment and 7 Bucks Entertainment.
