LA SCREENINGS: US broadcast network The CW has unveiled its primetime schedules for 2024/25, including new gameshows and scripted series, plus a significant expansion of its sports coverage.

At an upfront presentation in New York, Brad Schwartz, The CW’s president of entertainment, claimed the roster was a “leap forward in the bold transformation” of the network, after Nextstar Media Group bought a majority stake in late 2022.
In scripted, new procedural comedic drama Good Cop/Bad Cop follows a pair of Pacific Northwest sibling detectives, played by Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl) and Luke Cook (Katy Keene). The Aussie series is produced by Future Shack Entertainment and Jungle Entertainment, and is distributed by ITV Studios. The Roku Channel in the US and Stan in Australia are also onboard.
Also set to premiere in midseason is mystery thriller series Sherlock & Daughter, featuring David Thewlis as the iconic investigator, from Starlings Television Distribution, Albion Television and StoryFirst.
New limited series Joan, meanwhile, sees Sophie Turner play notorious 1980s jewel thief Joan Hannington. It was originally commissioned by UK streamer ITVX and is produced by Snowed-In Productions, with All3Media International distributing.
The Librarians: Next Chapter, meanwhile, is a spin-off from supernatural series The Librarians, starring Callum McGowan and produced by Electric Entertainment and Balkanic Media.
In unscripted, Monday night primetime schedules will feature two new formats inspired by board games: Scrabble (Hasbro Entertainment, The CW, Mattel Television Studios and Lionsgate Alternative Television) and Trivial Pursuit (Hasbro Entertainment, The CW, Lionsgate Alternative Television and Talpa Studios).
A major focus of The CW’s content strategy is sports and sports entertainment programming.
Pro wrestling show WWE NXT makes its network debut on Tuesday nights, while the second season of Inside the NFL, hosted by Ryan Clark, is scheduled for Friday evenings. CW Sports Saturdays will feature Pac-12 college football and the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
The new sports programming bolsters The CW’s existing coverage of LIV golf, ACC football and ACC baseball.
Returning shows include hit drama series Sullivan’s Crossing, the final season of Superman & Lois and sketch show Whose Line Is It Anyway?
The CW bosses explained that while the network hasn’t yet confirmed renewals for popular shows All American and Walker, more pick-up announcements will made in the coming weeks.
Schwartz said: “The fall 2024 season is another leap forward in the bold transformation of The CW Network, as we continue building a media brand with broadcast at its core.
“The CW is currently enjoying three consecutive quarters of growth and we are looking forward to a fall schedule that is stronger than ever.
“We’ll also have more live sports than ever. Anchored by 500 hours of sports in 2025, we continue to get bigger and broader while reaching and growing our audience across broadcast, streaming and local.”
