The CW enters Nick’s Hidden Temple

The original Legends of the Hidden Temple

US broadcast network The CW has greenlit an adult version of classic Nickelodeon competition series Legends of the Hidden Temple.

The new version preserves many of the original elements of the 1990s Nickelodeon series, which was inspired by the seminal Nintendo game The Legend of Zelda and the Indiana Jones movie franchise.

But while the kids’ version was filmed in a studio, the adult reboot of the format will feature five teams of contestants competing in “tougher” outdoor challenges, with much bigger prizes on the line, The CW said.

The CW, which is part-owned by Nickelodeon parent company ViacomCBS, has yet to announce the series’ premiere date.

The original Legends of the Hidden Temple aired between 1993 and 1995 on Nickelodeon, with repeats airing continuously for nearly 30 years. It has also inspired a movie, mobile games, a board game and popular Halloween costumes.

Legends of the Hidden Temple was originally created by David G Stanley, Scott A Stone and Stephen R Brown, with Stone & Company Entertainment and Nickelodeon producing.
