The CW cuts raft of shows including Dynasty, Charmed, lines up three new titles

US fantasy drama Charmed

US network The CW has axed a raft of shows including Dynasty, Charmed and Legacies and commissioned three new titles in a significant shakeup to its 2022/23 broadcast schedule.

Roswell New Mexico has also not been renewed beyond its fourth season, which will premiere soon, while The 4400 and Naomi were cancelled after their first seasons. In the Dark will also end after its fourth season. Dynasty and Legacies are ending after their fourth seasons, while Charmed ends after its fifth.

The network confirmed that it has ordered three previously announced pilots to series – Gotham Knights, Walker: Independence and The Winchesters. All three are based on DC Comics.

All American: Homecoming was also renewed for a second season.

Earlier this month, the youth-skewing network cancelled a pair of its DC shows – Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman – after seven and three seasons, respectively.

The apparent downsizing of its content slate comes four months after the network was put up for sale by its joint owners Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) and Paramount Global. In addition, WBD president and CEO David Zaslav and his team are currently undertaking a close examination of how best to integrate WarnerMedia and Discovery’s various assets.

Texas-headquartered local-TV giant Nexstar Media Group is rumoured to be among the frontrunners to acquire the network, though no deal has been reached yet.
