The Co-Production Company partners with Ananey Studios on teen series

Recently launched US financing firm The Co-Production Company has joined forces with Israel’s Ananey Studios to coproduce upcoming live-action teen series Thalath.

Commissioned by Nickelodeon Israel and created by Michal Cooper Keren and Lior Yaron, Thalath (40×30’) centres on a trio of 16-year-old friends who grew up together in a mixed neighbourhood where Jews, Arabs and refugees from Africa live side by side.

Though they each come from a different culture, their friendship is stronger than any language or religion. The girls start a multilingual band called Thalath, whose original music will be featured in the series.

New York-based The Co-Production Company will seek to secure financing and global distribution for the show for all territories outside of Israel. Doug Schwalbe, the former DreamWorks Animation exec who launched The Co-Production Company, will serve as executive producer on the series.

Former Corus and Wildbrain sales executive Jerry Diaz has joined The Co-Production Company team as distribution partner for the project. He will lead the effort to secure programme sales in territories throughout the world and will also exec produce.

Ananey Studios CEO Orly Atlas-Katz and senior VP of development and production Osnat Saraga are also among the exec producers.

Schwalbe launched The Co-Production Company earlier this year as a boutique firm that specialises in the finance and distribution of high-end international productions.

The company has backing from France’s Superprod Group and deals with writer/producer Michael Poryes and Impact X Capital. Other partners include Pukeko Pictures (New Zealand), August Media (Singapore), Chatrone (Brazil), Anima Estudios (Mexico) and DreamWorks Animation Television.
