The ABC commissions TV adaptation of kids’ book series The Treehouse with Werner Film

Children’s book series The Treehouse is written and illustrated by Andy Griffiths and Tony Denton

Australia’s ABC has commissioned an adaptation of bestselling children’s book series The Treehouse, from author Andy Griffiths and illustrator Tony Denton.

The new series is in partnership with Werner Film Productions with Griffiths also executive producing the screen adaptation.

The children’s series represents the second new commission, following Bananas in Pyjamas to be confirmed under the ABC’s A$50m (US$34.3m) funding boost from the federal government.

The additional funding was announced late last year and delivered to stimulate Australian scripted and children’s content over the next three years.

The screen adaptation of The Treehouse follows best friends Andy and Terry embarking on adventures inside their ever‑expanding treehouse.

Werner Film Productions head of development Rachel Davis said: “Werner Film Productions is a passionate producer of high-quality scripted series for kids and families and we are thrilled to once again partner with the ABC, who are such champions for this audience. The hilarious Treehouse books, so expertly crafted by Andy and Terry, have already delighted kids around the world and we are beyond excited to have the opportunity to bring this iconic, unique and much-loved Australian property to the screen.”
