TGC GE acquires Hunan TV’s breakout Chinese business reality format Gold Rush

Hunan TV’s Gold Rush achieved 2.3 billion online views

MIPCOM: Los Angeles-based TGC Global Entertainment (TGC GE), the format distribution company launched by US veteran Phil Gurin, has acquired the international rights to breakout Chinese business reality format Gold Rush.

Created and produced by Hunan TV, Gold Rush takes viewers into the nation’s universities to discover the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs.

The first 12×70-90’ series aired in prime time reaching a whopping 2.3 billion online views over the full run on Hunan TV and Mango TV.

The action starts with 30 students drawn from diverse disciplines and with equally diverse visions, who must battle through a series of tasks and challenges designed to turn their bold ideas into real-world breakthroughs.

Gurin, who collected the International Formats Business Gold Award here in Cannes at the weekend, is shopping the format internationally at this week’s Mipcom.

This month TGC GE hired Carolina Sofia den Baas as sales and acquisitions agent for Central and Eastern Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
