This October, the European Space Agency and NASA will launch a spacecraft called Hera to survey an asteroid that was targeted by a previous mission designed to prevent such objects from hitting Earth.

If that doesn’t sound science fiction enough, then Austria’s Terra Mater Studios – the factual filmmaking subsidiary of Red Bull – is working with the mission to integrate artificial intelligence within Hera allowing people to communicate with the spacecraft using a ‘Planetary Defense Companion App’.

Terra Mater is making an accompanying three-part documentary that will air in 2025, and director and executive producer Markus Mooslechner was at Sunnyside of the Doc in La Rochelle last week to find potential partners.

He spoke with Jonathan Webdale about the project, how he thinks AI will be used more broadly across the television business and why he’s not afraid of the technology.

C21FM is live 24/7, with a block of interviews starting at 10am BST every day HERE.
