Tepuy delivers a novel novela

Tepuy International has finished production on Blanca y Pura (White and Pure), which boasts the distinction of being the first animated production in the telenovela genre.

Blanca y Pura attracted immediate broadcast interest last year but buyers wanted to see the finished product before committing, according to Ignacio Barrera, svp, Tepuy International.

The (26×30′) series, which is now ready for delivery, has all the elements of a traditional pink novela, but provides a satirical take on the format.

The storyline revolves around two love-struck 20 year-olds, whose fathers – one the chief of police, the other the head of a Mafia crime family – oppose the match. Intent on destroying each other, the fathers are also unaware that they are actually twin brothers separated since birth…

Penned by Mauricio Reina and Rafael Vesga, the show was co-produced by Alfredo D’Ambrosio, Fernando Espejo and Marco Santana, with Mariana Cortes wearing the executive producer’s cap. With original music by Nicolas Uribe, Conexion Creativa was responsible for the 2D animation.

Blanca y Pura has already been picked by RCN in Colombia and Televen in Venezuela, with a pan-regional Latin American deal currently in negotiation.

“It was a surprise that free TV got so interested in the project, because we thought its natural home was cable,” said Barrera.

He adds that the adult-oriented show has a much wider appeal than the female demographic, the genre’s traditional audience.

Blanca y Pura, which has still to make its broadcast bow, will be launched at MIPCOM.
