Tencent takes Odd Squad to China

Odd Squad helps kids with maths and problem-solving

Chinese streaming service Tencent will offer children’s maths comedy series Odd Squad in the country for the first time.

The show focuses on intrepid young agents who are part of Odd Squad, an agency whose mission is to investigate strange happenings, and helps kids aged five to eight build maths, problem-solving and collaboration skills.

Singapore-based distributor Bomanbridge Media is the long-time partner to the live-action/CGI series’ coproducer, Canadian kids’ and family prodco Sinking Ship, for distribution in Asia and sealed the deal with Tencent.

The show is coproduced by Fred Rogers Productions and Sinking Ship Entertainment for PBS Kids in the US and TVOKids in Canada.

Bomanbridge previously sold the show to Public Television Service Foundation in Taiwan, Thai Public Broadcasting, PCCW and Television Broadcasting Limited in Hong Kong, VTV7 and SCTV in Vietnam and Mediacorp in Singapore.

Elsewhere, Sinking Ship Entertainment has sold the series to broadcasters and platforms such as Netflix, CBBC in the UK, Gloob in Brazil, KiKa in Germany, NRK in Norway, SVT in Sweden and ABC in Australia.

“Culminating our Asian sales with Tencent in China does reflect the momentum the series continues to have, fresh off the back of the launch of season three. Live-action kids’ series can be challenging to sell in Asia, so it is gratifying to see how well Odd Squad is doing,” said Sonia Fleck, CEO of Bomanbridge Media.
