TelevisaUnivision’s ViX+ reboots Mexican psychological drama Mujeres Asesinas

TelevisaUnivision’s soon-to-launch SVoD platform ViX+ is rebooting the popular Mexican anthology series Mujeres Asesinas (Killer Women).

Yalitza Aparicio

The Mexican-American media company revealed on Wednesday that the eight-part psychological drama had started filming this month.

The original version of Mujeres Asesinas ran for three seasons from 2008 to 2010 on Mexican network Las Estrellas.

Based on Marissa Grinstein’s book of the same name, the new iteration is produced by Plétora Productions and written by Spanish writer Alicia Luna.

Oscar-nominated Mexican actress Yalitza Aparicio will star in one of the episodes.

The scripted series is inspired by real life and tells the stories of women who were driven to murder by violent partners, manipulative parents, hostile bosses and others.

Francisco Casasús, Rafael Cuadros and Luis Luisillo Miguel are executive producing, while Pepe Castro, Carlos García Agraz and Ana Lorena Pérez-Ríos are directing.

Set to launch next month, ViX+ will release more than 50 originals in its first year. Earlier this month, the service said it had 24 projects in development, 13 in pre-production, 10 in production and four in post-production. Its sister AVoD platform ViX launched in March.

ViX+ recently went into production on another of its scripted originals, Pinches Momias. The action-horror-comedy series is produced by Propagate Fuego, the Spanish-language content division of LA-based Propagate.
