Televisa, Globomedia launch prodco

Mexican TV giant Televisa and leading Spanish producer Globomedia have partnered to launch a new content house.

The as-yet-unnamed joint venture prodco will target both the Spanish and international markets, and will see Globo creating local formats of Televisa’s extensive programming catalogue.

The deal brings together two of the Spanish-speaking world’s biggest production hubs and includes Televisa’s agreement to localise Sony Pictures Television’s format library in Spain.

Televisa set up the deal when it swapped its 40.8% stake in Spanish broadcaster La Sexta for a 14.5% stake in Imagina Media Audiovisual, the holding company part-owned by Globomedia, back in December.

We believe this is a very important agreement that enhances international expansion of Globomedia. It will be very fruitful for both parties,” said Globomedia president Daniel Écija.

Televisa’s president of television and content Jose Baston added the partnership was “an important step to strengthen the presence of Grupo Televisa in Spanish-speaking world and Europe.”
