Teletoon reboots Inspector Gadget

Canadian broadcaster Teletoon has slated two new shows, including a CGI version of classic cartoon Inspector Gadget.

The new series will be produced by Canadian firm DHX Media, which acquired the original show’s owners, Cookie Jar Entertainment, in October last year.

The new Inspector Gadget will include familiar characters Dr Claw, Penny and police dog Brain, who all featured in the original cartoon series first broadcast between 1983 and 1986.

Teletoon has also greenlit Pirate Express (52×11’), to be produced by Vancouver-based Atomic Cartoons.

The show, which was originally given the go-ahead in 2011, follows a 12-year-old boy in charge of a pirate ship as he takes on a variety of strange voyages. It is scheduled to air in 2014.

The Canadian broadcaster has also renewed four shows, including season two of Breakthrough Entertainment’s animated comedy adventure show Rocket Monkeys (13×22’), as reported by C21 last week.

A second season of Endangered Species (26×11’), produced by Vancouver’s Nerd Corps Entertainment, is also in the line-up, alongside a seventh season of  DHX’s Johnny Test (13×22’) and a three-part special slated.

A sixth season of Total Drama: Pahkitew Island (13×22’) from Fresh TV has also been picked up, with another C$1m (US$980,000) available for the winner of the challenge-based competition format.
