Telemundo elevates Ponce to streaming role

US Spanish-language producer Telemundo Global Studios (TGS) has promoted Juan Ponce to head its newly formed division dedicated to producing content aimed at streamers.

Juan Ponce

As senior VP and general manager of Telemundo Streaming Studios (TSS), which was set up earlier this month, he will continue to report to TGS president Marcos Santana and oversee production for TGS and Telemundo’s Underground Producciones in Argentina.

Ponce was formerly senior VP of production operations and strategy for the Miami-based company, where he was responsible for strategic planning, business and production operations, financial strategies, administration and investments.

Prior to that, he was VP of finance and corporate strategy at Telemundo’s parent company NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises.

The change is part of a realignment by TGS that sees executive VP of production and development Karen Barroeta extend her role to include talent and casting, scripted development and the head writers’ team. Barroeta will also report to Santana.

Santana said of Ponce: “Juan is a seasoned executive with the perfect experience and track record to lead this new studio and help TGS continue to pioneer this highly competitive industry. His business acumen and creative expertise will be instrumental in helping us launch TSS to meet the growing demand for streaming content among Latinos in the US and across international markets.”
