WarnerMedia’s TCM revisits Kubrick classic with A Forbidden Orange

A Clockwork Orange was banned in Spain under Franco

WarnerMedia-owned channel TCM in Spain is producing a documentary about Stanley Kubrick’s seminal 1971 film A Clockwork Orange ahead of the movie’s 50th anniversary in October.

A Forbidden Orange (La Naranja Prohibida) reconstructs the events that took place in the days surrounding the first public screening of A Clockwork Orange in Spain in 1975, four years after its original premiere been banned by the Spanish dictatorship.

The film was eventually screened during the Valladolid International Film Festival, aka the Seminci, and A Forbidden Orange examines the key aspects of the movie.

It also looks at the historical importance of its premiere in Spain during a politically turbulent moment, under pressure from censorship and General Franco’s efforts to control culture and cinema.

Pedro González Bermúdez directs A Forbidden Orange, which is supported by the Stanley Kubrick Estate. The doc is being filmed in collaboration with the Valladolid Film Office and the Valladolid Fair.
