PatMa Productions will produce for all platforms including TV, film and digital and has already agreed partnerships with organisations including the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, the Centre for Popular Democracy and Planned Parenthood.

The company, named after Di Novi and Tassler’s mothers, Pat and Norma, is separate from Di Novi’s Warner Bros-based Di Novi Pictures.

Tassler, who stepped down from CBS in 2015, worked with Di Novi on CBS drama The District in 2000.

“We are committed to gender parity and giving women and people of colour more opportunities both in front of and behind the camera,” Di Novi said.

“PatMa will develop content that not only entertains but surprises, challenges and awakens audiences to the emotional experiences of people from every walk of life.”

Tassler, who was in charge as president then chairman at CBS Entertainment for 12 years, oversaw shows including The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother and The Good Wife during her tenure.

She added: “We recognise that diverse voices from diverse backgrounds make innovative storytelling, which is good for business, and we are excited to work in partnership with an array of creatively talented people – both women and men – who share our vision and values.

“It’s a critical time and we look forward to telling these stories across a wide spectrum of platforms.”
