Target opens Restaurant in Europe

UK format Restaurant in Our Living Room is opening eateries across Europe, after broadcasters in France, Romania and Sweden bagged local production rights.

French digital broadcaster TMC, Romania’s Kanal D and Sweden’s Kanal 9 have all picked up format rights to the show, which was originally produced by Rain Media for now-defunct UK DTT channel Virgin 1 in 2009.

The competitive dining format – one of the pioneers of the pop-up restaurant TV trend of the past couple of years – sees couples going head-to-head to create the best dining experience in their own homes.

The distributor of the format, UK-based Target Entertainment, has also sold the UK version of the show to Canal Cocina for Spain and Portugal.

In other news from Target, Maverick Television’s lifestyle show 10 Years Younger has also seen some sales. Three seasons of the Channel 4 version have been picked up by TLC for Russia; and several seasons of the UK, US and New Zealand versions have been acquired by TV3 in Ireland and TCast in Korea.

Furthermore, local production rights have been picked up by Israel’s Keshet, which jointly programmes the territory’s leading commercial network, Channel 2.

Tool Academy, a reality series from US prodco 495 Productions, has also been sold by Target to TET channel in Ukraine and Polsat in Poland. UK diginet E4 recently announced plans to make a UK version of the original VH1 show.

Furthermore, 120 episodes of Lighthearted Entertainment’s speed dating format Next! have been bought by TET Ukraine and Antena 3’s Neox channel has renewed its deal to make a further 40 Spanish episodes in 2011.

Rounding off Target’s list of post-Mipcom deals, 33 half-hours of The Dudesons have been acquired by 2×2 in Russia, with the channel also taking US cablenet Fuse’s Crusty’s Dirt Demons (8×30′), and Girl Racers (7×30′) from NZ prodco Two Heads Entertainment.
