Talos Films doc set to chronicle fight for justice by ex-Liberty University students

Heather Wendel and Chelsea Andrews are among the 22 ex-students involved in a legal case against Liberty University

US producer Talos Films has signed an exclusive access deal with the women at the centre of sexual assault scandal that hit Liberty University in Virginia to make a documentary about their fight for justice.

Created in the wake of the true crime podcast Gangster Capitalism, The Liberty University Project (working title) will investigate the scandal that has revealed numerous cases of alleged sexual assault where the university took no meaningful action over the past two decades.

The series is being produced in association with comedian Tom Arnold, who was featured in the podcast. Executive producers are Arnold and Talos Films co-Founders Elli Hakami and Julian P Hobbs.

The show will also explore the darker side of the influence and power wielded by the university, which was founded by Southern Baptist preacher Jerry Falwell in 1971. It was headed by his son, Jerry Falwell Jr, until his resignation in the spring of this year in the wake of his own sex scandal.

Talos is also working on a documentary on the sex scandal involving Hollywood actor Armie Hammer and his family.

Talos Films recently made Queen of Meth for SVoD service Discovery+, telling the story of Lori Arnold’s unlikely rise to become a drugs “queen pin” in rural Ohio. Talos has since signed a deal to make true crime content for Discovery+.

Talos has also produced Torn Apart: Separated at The Border for HBO Films, which tells the stories of mothers separated from their children at the US-Mexico border.
