Talent-led series Billy and Dom Eat the World on the menu for Abacus Media Rights

UK-based distributor Abacus Media Rights (AMR) is to handle global sales of talent-led travel and food series Billy and Dom Eat the World, starring The Lord of the Rings actors Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan.

The six-part series, which doesn’t have a commissioning broadcaster, is produced by UK indie Dash Pictures and will be officially launched at Mipcom in October.

It sees Boyd and Monaghan travel around the world discovering local delicacies in diverse locations.

In the first episode, the duo visit their former Lord of the Rings cast-mate Sir Ian McKellan – who played kindly wizard Gandalf – to chat about his London pub, The Grapes.

Billy and Dom Eat the World is executive produced by Daniel Sharp, Martin Blencowe, Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan.

Jonathan Ford, MD, AMR said: “Daniel and the team at Dash Pictures have an innate ability to create unscripted programming that really hits the sweet spot.

“Their series are always individual, intriguing and internationally appealing and we’re delighted to be representing a food and travel show presented by these exuberant and universally loved stars.”

AMR, which is to be acquired by Canada’s Sphere Media for C$24.6m (US$18m) https://www.c21media.net/news/canadas-sphere-media-to-buy-abacus-media-rights/ following the company’s sale by parent company Amcomri Entertainment, has also announced it will distribute another talent-led series produced by Dash Pictures.

It will represent Fantastic Friends, starring Harry Potter actors James and Oliver Phelps.
