Syfy picks up Canadian time-traveller

Syfy in the UK has acquired a Canadian time-travel thriller in a deal with GK-TV.

The Universal Networks International-owned diginet has picked up Continuum, which centres on a female cop from the future who finds herself trapped in the present day.

The 10×60′ series, which is produced by Reunion Pictures and Shaw Media, first aired on Showcase in Canada in May. It will launch on Syfy on September 27.

Meanwhile, US cablenet Syfy is on board a reboot of the classic British adventure series Blake’s 7.

The show, originally created by Terry Nation, told the story of a group of renegades and criminals who escape from a prison planet and battle humans and aliens to become heroes.

It premiered on the BBC in 1978, running for four seasons.

NBCUniversal-owned Syfy is now developing a new version of the series with Georgeville Television and producer Marc Rosen. Director Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) and writer Joe Pokaski (Heroes) are also attached to the project.
