Syfy buys Canadian werewolf drama

US cable network Syfy has acquired the first season of supernatural thriller Bitten, from Canada’s Bell Media and eOne Television.

The 13×60′ series, based on the best-selling Women of the Otherworld novels by Kelley Armstrong, will start screening on Syfy next year. Bell’s Space channel will screen the series in Canada, also starting next year.

Laura Vandervoort (Smallville) stars in the series as a modern day werewolf, the only female of her kind.

eOne is set to introduce Bitten to international buyers at the upcoming Mipcom market.

The show is produced by No Equal Entertainment, Hoodwink Entertainment and eOne in association with Space and Bell Media, with the participation of Rogers Cable Network Fund and Cogeco Program Development Fund and the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit.

Exec producers include J B Sugar for No Equal, Patrick Banister and John Barbisan for Hoodwink and Tecca Crosby, John Morayniss and Margaret O’Brien for eOne. Daegan Fryklind and Grant Rosenberg are exec producers and co-showrunners.
