Syfy greenlights two originals

George A Romero’s 1985 feature film Day of the Dead

NBCUniversal-owned US cablenet Syfy has greenlit two new original series, The Surrealtor and Day of the Dead.

The 10-part series The Surrealtor follows a group of specialist real-estate agents who attempt to sell haunted houses by investigating and resolving the cases behind the paranormal activity that has taken over the homes.

The series is produced by Toronto-based indie Blue Ice Pictures and is set to be exec produced by Lance Samuels, Daniel Iron and George Olson, who will also serve as showrunner.

Day of the Dead has also been given the green light. The 10-parter tells the story of six strangers trying to survive the first 24 hours of an undead invasion and is an homage to George A Romero’s 1985 feature film of the same name.

The series will be produced by LA-based prodco Cartel Entertainment, with Stan Spry, Jeff Holland, Drew Brown Robert Dudelson, James Dudelson and Jordan Kizwani exec producing. Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas will serve as showrunners.

Both titles are expected to premier on the network in 2021. They join Syfy’s catalogue of original content which includes upcoming drama Resident Alien, Vagrant Queen, the TV adaptation of the Chucky franchise, Wynonna Earp, Van Helsing and The Magicians alongside upcoming talk-show Syfy Wire’s The Great Debate.
