Sweden’s SVT, Italy’s Mediaset among latest buyers of CBC nature programming

Wild Canadian Weather has been picked up by SVT, Bomanbridge Media and Viasat World

SVT in Sweden and Mediaset in Italy are among the international buyers to have acquired nature and wildlife programming from CBC & Radio-Canada Distribution, the content licensing arm of Canada’s public broadcaster.

Both broadcasters have acquired First Animals (1×52’), about the Burgess Shale fossils that have rewritten our understanding of evolution. The project is produced by Red Trillium Films.

SVT has also taken Nature’s Cleanup Crew (1×52’), produced by Kensington Communications, as has China’s Skyword Co. The doc spotlights the animals that share our cities, from ants to vultures to opossums, and how they recycle the waste society leaves behind.

Another series picked up by SVT is Wild Canadian Weather (4×52′), which has also been acquired by Bomanbridge Media (Asia-Pacific) and Viasat World for CEE, Russia and CIS, the Baltics and Scandinavia. The series, produced by River Road Films, explores the extreme climate in parts of Canada.

Other recent sales by CBC & Radio-Canada Distribution include climate-change special Rebellion (1×52′, Grand Passage Media) to Mediawan Thematics (France) and SIC (Portugal); The Covid Cruise (1×52’, Blue Pearl Productions) to PBS America (UK and Ireland) and Bell Media (French Canada); and Sing Me a Lullaby (1×29’, Golden Nugget Productions) to PBS/POV (US), Al Jazeera (MENA), CNEX (Taiwan) and Sky Arts (New Zealand).
