SVT secures BBCWW shows

Top of the Lake: China Girl is among the shows SVT has picked up

Swedish pubcaster SVT has taken a far-reaching package of programming from BBC Worldwide including dramas, documentaries and children’s shows.

The deal includes: Top of the Lake: China Girl, the next instalment of Jane Campion’s hit series; psychological rollercoaster Paula; and returning scripted shows Scott & Bailey and The Durrells.

The package also covers more than 80 hours of factual programming, such as true crime series Love & Hate Crime and airline show City in the Sky.

More than 140 episodes of popular children’s series, including Bagel & Becky and Sarah & Duck, have also been acquired by SVT.

Nick Percy, exec VP for northern Europe at BBCWW, said: “Our partnership with SVT continues to go from strength to strength. Following another successful BBC Worldwide Showcase, we have been able to work together on a deal which demonstrates the breadth and quality of our content and the appetite for it from Swedish audiences.”

SVT was among a number of Nordic broadcasters to lose first-window rights to the latest season of crime drama Sherlock after distributor BBCWW agreed a deal with Netflix last November.
