Anne Lagercrantz

Lagercrantz, described by SVT as one of the country’s most accomplished media executives, will take over the role from Hanna Stjärne on November 1.

She has previously held roles as head of TV4 News, head of the national newsroom Ekot at Swedish Radio and head of SVT’s news and sports division.

Stjärne is leaving SVT after a decade to become CEO of the Nobel Foundation, which manages the finances and administration of the Nobel Prizes, at the beginning of 2025.

As deputy CEO, Lagercrantz is responsible for artificial intelligence strategy at SVT as well as the development of its digital services, plus the company’s security and crisis preparedness.

Lagercrantz is also chair of the Swedish news publishers’ body Utgivarna and vice-chair of the Constructive Institute at Aarhus University.

“SVT exists for everyone in Sweden. It has a special place in audience’s lives in terms of trust and use, and the company has to be led, for that reason, by the very best of media executives,” said Christina Björklund, chair of SVT’s board.

“Anne Lagercrantz has the exceptional qualities required for the role. She has the ability to see the unprecedented changes taking place across the media landscape, to be sensitive to the audience’s evolving media needs, while also being a courageous journalistic leader. In addition, she is an inspiring and energetic executive with an exceptional ability to communicate. I am delighted that Anne Lagercrantz is now taking on the role of CEO of SVT.”

Lagercrantz added: “SVT’s role is to be a constructive, safe and trustworthy force at the heart of Swedish daily life. It is a significant and solemn responsibility. SVT exists for everyone. It will be my role together with SVT’s employees to ensure that SVT continues to earn the audience’s time and trust. I am both humbled and delighted to take on the role of CEO of SVT. It’s the most wonderful job I can imagine.”
