Nine subscription VoD (SVoD) services around the world have picked up a combined total of 5,000 half-hours of children’s content from Canada’s DHX Media.

Tfou Max, the soon-to-launch SVoD service from French broadcaster TF1, has added about 120 half-hours to its library, including the toons Strawberry Shortcake and The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.

In Canada, Shomi, the fledgling joint venture between Shaw Media and Rogers Media, has taken close to 2,800 half-hours of content across more than 70 series, including Caillou, Martha Speaks, Johnny Test, Super Why!, In the Night Garden and Super Mario.

Meanwhile, in the US, preschool service Qkids has licensed approximately 450 half-hours across 26 series and specials, including Strawberry Shortcake and Teletubbies.

VOD Kids, a service from Chilean telecoms company VTR, which launched in April last year, has picked up 10 series, including Care Bears and Rastamouse.

Down under, fledgling and rival SVoD services Stan and Presto TV have both added DHX series, including Teletubbies, In the Night Garden, Arthur and Caillou.

Other deals have been concluded with Aflix in Africa, which expanded in October last year from three countries to more than 30 across Sub-Saharan Africa, and Vidi, a South African SVoD and transactional VoD service.

Finally, Malaysia-based Catcha Groups’ iFlix SVoD service, which is set to launch in South-East Asia in March, has picked up 19 series from DHX, including Animal Mechanicals and Super Why!.

Dana Landry, CEO of DHX Media, said that more than two dozen new subscription streaming services have been announced or launched globally in the past 12 months.
