Susan Alexander becomes latest content exec to leave Corus Entertainment

Corus Entertainment scripted production executive Susan Alexander is exiting the company after 16 years.

During her tenure at the Canadian broadcasting group, Alexander oversaw development and production on dozens of scripted series including legal drama Family Law (Global), young-adult drama Geek Girl (YTV, Netflix) and Mary Kills People (Global, Lifetime).

Alexander revealed her departure via a LinkedIn post on Sunday, noting that she was “moving on from Corus Entertainment to pursue other opportunities in our Industry.”

She becomes the latest content executive to leave Corus as the company continues to downsize in the midst of a stock-market crash that has seen its share price drop to around 14 Canadian cents per share.

While the stock had been struggling over the past two years, news that Corus would lose its trademark and licensing deals for Warner Bros Discovery-owned lifestyle brands including HGTV, Food Network and Magnolia has caused the share price to crater. Key execs to have exited the company over the past three months include former CEO Doug Murphy, chief revenue officer Greg McLelland and Athena Georgaklis, VP of Nelvana Studios.

Programming execs that remain at the embattled Canadian broadcaster include Lynne Carter (director of original programming), Debbie Brown (production executive), Jesse Barkley (development and production executive for original unscripted programming) and VP of original programming and head of Corus Studios Rachel Nelson.

“What a privilege it has been to collaborate on over 500 episodes of great Canadian content for Global, Showcase, W, YTV, Treehouse and History,” said Alexander.

“I have worked with amazing people both at Corus and in the independent production community, and look forward to continuing to build on that legacy.”
