Sundance unveils fall slate

The critically acclaimed Deutschland 83 has been picked up across the world

US cablenet SundanceTV and sibling SVoD service Sundance Now have unveiled their 2018 fall slates, including the sequel to acclaimed German drama Deutschland 83.

Deutschland 86, created by Anna Winger and Jörg Winger, will debut on October 25 at 00.00ET/23.00C and picks up the story of East German Agent Martin Rauch and his compatriots in the Stasi Foreign Intelligence in 1986, three years on from the first season.

The show is from FremantleMedia-owned UFA Fiction and will also be available via Amazon in Germany. Other broadcasters to have picked up the show include Channel 4 and SVoD service Walter Presents in the UK and DR in Denmark.

Elsewhere, docuseries Jonestown: Terror in the Jungle is from actor Leonardo DiCaprio’s prodco Appian Way and will air on 17 November at 21.00ET/20.00C. The show marks the 40th anniversary of the Jonestown massacre that claimed the lives of more than 900 people.

Australian drama Dead Lucky, created and written by Subtext Pictures’ Ellie Beaumont and Drew Proffitt for SBS in Oz, will be available via Sundance Now from September 20, while bank robbery drama 54 Hours and French thriller The Bureau have also been slated but do not have launch dates.

Other shows on the slate include psychological thriller The Cry, produced by Harry and Jack Williams (The Missing), and relationship drama Cheat, which is directed by Louise Hooper.
