Succession: HBO commissions fourth season of Jesse Armstrong’s drama hit

Succession has received widespread critical acclaim

US network HBO has greenlit a fourth season of its hour-long drama Succession just over a week since the third season premiered on the network and its direct-to-consumer platform HBO Max in the US.

Succession’s S3 debut has drawn more than 1.4 million viewers across all platforms. The ratings haul in the US marks a series high and “the best premiere night of any HBO original series since the launch of HBO Max,” according to HBO parent company WarnerMedia.

Jesse Armstrong, who also co-created the classic Channel 4 sitcom Peep Show, serves as showrunner and also executive produces alongside Adam McKay, Frank Rich, Kevin Messick, Jane Tranter, Mark Mylod, Tony Roche, Scott Ferguson, Jon Brown, Lucy Prebble, Will Tracy and Will Ferrell.

Starring Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook, Kieran Culkin and Alan Ruck, Succession tells the story of a dysfunctional family fighting for control of the media empire built by the family patriarch, Logan Roy (Cox).

The series also stars Nicholas Braun, Matthew Macfadyen, Peter Friedman, J Smith-Cameron, Dagmara Dominczyk, Justine Lupe, David Rasche, Fisher Stevens, Hiam Abbass, Arian Moayed, Harriet Walter, James Cromwell, Natalie Gold, Juliana Canfield, Annabelle Dexter-Jones, Zoë Winters and Jeannie Berlin.
