Produced in-house by STV Productions, which is behind gameshow Catchphrase, The Cash Machine will see contestants answer a series of questions in order to access the PIN number to “the world’s most generous ATM.”

The 6×60’ series will debut on STV later this year, with production already underway. It will be piloted initially in Scotland, with scope to be distributed elsewhere in the UK and international markets, said STV.

Gary Chippington, STV Productions’ creative director, will exec produce the gameshow. He said: “The format of The Cash Machine is addictive and built around a universally recognised centrepiece, the ATM, so it’s a show we hope resonates with viewers not just in Scotland but potentially worldwide.”

STV’s director of programme strategy and marketing, Stephen O’Donnell, added: “The Cash Machine appealed to us because of its innovative question style and fast-paced game play. Presenter Lorraine Kelly is hugely popular and we hope viewers will be hooked as they play along with contestants.”

Separately, STV also said BBC Scotland has recommissioned six-part series Inside Central Station. The documentary, produced by STV Productions, follows the staff in Glasgow Central Station. The first season debuted earlier this year and the second season will go into production later in the year.

Meanwhile, BBC1 has recommissioned the 19th and 20th seasons of Antiques Road Trip and the ninth season of Celebrity Antiques Road Trip from STV Productions, while ITV has recommissioned Celebrity Catchphrase. All three will be delivered for 2019.

On Wednesday, STV revealed it has bought a majority stake in unscripted producer Primal Media, the company behind formats Release the Hounds and Carnage.
