Studio+ moves to Filth City

Vivendi Group’s SVoD app Studio+ has acquired a dark political/crime comedy inspired by true events from Toronto-based LaRue Entertainment.

Twelve-part series Filth City has been made available to stream exclusively on Studio+ in France, Italy, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Ecuador.

The series is written and directed by Andy King, with Danny Polishchuck co-writing and starring alongside Melinda Shankar (Degrassi) and Pat Thornton (Sunnyside).

Loosely based on the story of Toronto’s late ex-mayor Rob Ford, Filth City follows events after a mayor running for re-election is caught on video smoking crack.

Filth City was originally slated for Canadian pay TV network Super Channel before the network’s owner, Allarco Entertainment, was granted bankruptcy protection last year.

The show has been financed by the Canada Media Fund and LaRue Entertainment, with tax credits from the government of Canada and province of Ontario.

Studio+ is dedicated to shortform premium scripted series, providing subscribers with a mix of shortform originals, first-run acquisitions and exclusives.
