Streamer Viu, GMA in Phillipines partner for first time on romantic drama The Write One

Bianca Umali and Ruru Madrid

PCCW-owned Asian streamer Viu and Filipino broadcaster GMA Network have teamed up for the first time to commission a new romantic drama called The Write One.

The series, directed by King Marc Baco and based on an original concept from executive producer Mark Anthony Norella, stars real-life couple Ruru Madrid and Bianca Umali.

The show is produced by GMA Public Affairs, the company behind hits Lolong and Love You Stranger, and will debut this month on Viu and later on GMA, as well as Filipino channels GTV, Pinoy Hits and I Heart Movies.

The series follows a frustrated writer (played by Madrid) who is given a chance to rewrite his love and life story with the help of a mysterious antique typewriter. Umali’s character is a sought-after actress who gives up her budding showbiz career to be a wife. Mikee Quintos and Paul Salas also star.

The GMA/Viu alliance comes soon after the Filipino broadcaster linked up with domestic rival ABS-CBN to coproduce romantic drama series Unbreak My Heart. The show is being filmed in Switzerland and will stream later this year in 15 territories outside of the Philippines on Viu.
