In the six-part show, Sweden’s most deprived areas are surrounded by walls and subject to special laws that supposedly protect the rest of society. When the home secretary delivers a speech inside the largest such area, known as Paradis City, she is kidnapped by masked men.

The drama will star Alexander Abdallah (Snabba Cash,  Love Me) and Julia Ragnarsson (End of Summer, Spring Tide), with Fenar Ahmad (Darkland, Megaheavy) directing.

It is being produced by Stockholm-based Strive Stories, in coproduction with Viaplay and in partnership with Paprika Studios.

Lapidus, who is on board as an executive producer, has sold more than five million books, including the Snabba Cash trilogy. His works have been translated into more than 30 languages.

Björn Paqualin (Occupied) is lead screenwriter for the series, with Michaela Hamilton and Oliver Dixon as episode writers. It is produced by Nicklas Wikström Nicastro (Snabba Cash) and Caroline Landerberg (The Dark Heart) for Strive Stories. Oskar Arulf exec produces for Viaplay Group.

Filippa Wallestam, Viaplay’s chief commercial officer for the Nordics, said: “Jens Lapidus’s thrilling plots and complex characters have made him an international bestseller, and we anticipate a wide audience across all our markets for this timely adaptation.”

Global sales are being handled by Viaplay Content Distribution.
