Streamer ITVX lines up 9,000 hours of free programming ahead of launch

A Spy Among Friends will debut on ITVX

ITVX, the forthcoming free streaming service from UK commercial broadcaster ITV, will launch with 9,000 hours of programming later this year.

The platform, which will replace existing catch-up service ITV Hub, will offer series, documentaries, cult classics and films for viewers without requiring a subscription fee.

New dramas set to premiere on ITVX include A Spy Among Friends, Without Sin, Tell Me Everything, Nolly, The Confessions of Frannie Langton and Litvinenko, starring David Tennant and Mark Bonnar.

The slate also includes over 150 hours of true crime content, some of which is exclusive, such as Monster in My Family and The Case Against Cosby.

Aquisitions include Astrid & Lilly Save the World and Korean-American show Dramaworld.

In addition to the series premiering and streaming exclusively on ITVX, the service will also launch full series of upcoming flagship ITV shows on their first day of broadcast, allowing viewers to binge-watch the shows.

These include drama Stonehouse, starring Matthew Macfadyen and Keeley Hawes, and the latest season of Unforgotten.

The series are in addition to a library of over 200 recent and classic US and UK dramas, comedies and reality shows that will be available to users.

ITV is also claiming it will hold the UK’s largest free film library, featuring movies fronted by the likes of Helen Mirren, Kate Winslet, Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Daniel Day Lewis, Ryan Gosling, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Caine and Anthony Hopkins.

ITVX will also offer viewers the flexibility to access free content with ads and ad-free paid subscriptions, details of which are yet to be revealed. Paying subscribers will also have access to BritBox UK.
